Dr. Peter Sakas likes to compare himself to a bartender.
According to Sakas, his job as a vet gives him just as much human interaction as working at a bar would. He learns about patients' families and is able to build long-term relationships with people and their pets.
Sakas has been a vet at Niles Animal Hospital since 1980, after taking over the practice from a doctor who had been there since the '40s. A self-described "workaholic," he says his favorite part of his job is the way he's able to combine his love of animals with his love of people. Since animals obviously can't talk, he says it's crucial to develop strong relationships with his patients' owners to get the best results for their pets.
